Community Spirit
Community Spirit
At SJ Roberts, we are firm believers in community spirit. Not only was Sweetlake Meadow designed specifically to encourage a close-knit community feel, but by using locally sourced timber and working with independent businesses to dress our show homes, the very ethics of the development came back to supporting the local area.
We constantly strive to do our bit for the community, which is why we were delighted to have the opportunity to help out Trinity School in Ford. This is the second year that we have supported their young learners, and this time we helped by providing funds for their unique trading card game, Character Clash.
Many children love collecting cards, and these particular cards are earned when a pupil completes a reading quiz about the books they read. There are 50 unique cards in total that can be collected, each featuring a monster or superhero that has their own name, skills and abilities. These can then be used to play a number of games that can be adjusted in difficulty, and so the more reading a student does, the more games they can play.
We believe the dedicated teachers at Trinity School have come up with a fantastic idea for motivating young learners to improve their reading skills. Community is all about supporting those around us, and we are proud to have had the opportunity to support our local children in their education.
“We are extremely grateful to SJ Roberts Homes for sponsoring our Character Clash project over the past two years. Their sponsorship has made this reward scheme possible and in turn has improved the children’s motivation to read for pleasure. In November, Trinity came runners-up for the ‘Praise and Raise’ award at the national Renaissance Learning Awards 2019 in London, recognising the innovative reward scheme of Character Clash! Maybe we’ll win it next time…” – Jack Pittaway, Co Headteacher
